Let’s start with a little background on Airsoft and it’s origins. Airsoft, and the interesting, fun sport that it has become today, began in Japan, where ownership of firearms is so strictly regulated that it is illegal for a Japanese citizen to even hold a gun in their hand, much less actually own one. Handguns are completely forbidden, and only shotguns and air rifles may held by the general population. Even then, the rigorous licensing requirements keep most people from ever owning shotguns.
Because of these restrictions, residents chose legal replicas that not only looked like real weapons, but felt and fired like them, too. These replicas, powered with compressed air, quickly became popular and competitions soon followed. This new, exciting sport quickly spread through Asia, Europe, and eventually to the United States and Canada.
From their early use in Japan, to their present day use around the world, airsoft weapons have transformed both military and law enforcement training, and created an entire sport among people of all ages, sexes, and sizes. The realism of the weapons, coupled with their relative safety, and affordability are second to none.
Over the past few years, airsoft competitions have sprung up all over North America, including target shooting, skirmishes, and tactical “war games” that appear much like military operations, with full battle gear, squads, and simulated battles. Enthusiasts often spend thousands of dollars on weapons, eye protection, camoflage, boots, etc., and an entire industry has sprung up around the sport. You, however, can spend as little or as much as you like, and still have all the enjoyment of owning a replica weapon that looks, feels, and shoots like the real thing!
